Responsible Tourism
Sustainability at Rukhad Jungle Camp
We embrace the principles of Responsible Tourism, recognizing the importance of minimizing our impact on the environment, wildlife, and local communities. We understand that true sustainability is a journey of constant growth and improvement. While we acknowledge that we may not be perfect, we are committed to making continuous progress in the right direction.
Our approach to sustainability involves ongoing learning, adaptation, and a dedication to ensuring that our operations benefit the people, wildlife, and natural environment, without exploitation. Together, we strive to create a positive and lasting impact, fostering a harmonious coexistence between tourism and the precious ecosystems we are privileged to explore.
Construction of Rukhad Jungle Camp
In line with our philosophy of sustainability from the construction phase itself, all the cottages of Rukhad Jungle Camp are constructed to have minimum footprint. There were no new structures created for constructions, instead we have converted the pre-existing watch towers which were used by the forest department during patrolling. The construction was done by a team of architects well renowned for their knowledge of making sustainable buildings. There has been no cement or rcc work that has been done, instead it is a temporary structure created with fibre cement boards and wooden boards. The doors and windows have been used from the repurposed wood of the area. To lessen the carbon footprint, we have only used materials found within a 100 kms radius for construction.
Food Philosophy
The food menu has been designed by a celebrity chef and is a synthesis of local flavours along with some popular dishes which our guests would appreciate. Since Rukhad Jungle Camp is within the peripheries of the Pench Tiger Reserve, we cannot have our own organic kitchen garden. Therefore, all the food is sourced from the nearby village markets ‘mandi’, where independent farmers come to sell their produce.
Creating Sustainable Livelihoods
At Jungle Camps, it is our firm belief that to pursue true sustainability, the local communities too should benefit from tourism and conservation should be in their interest too. Therefore wherever possible, our team consists of people from the nearby communities. They are constantly trained to create opportunities for them to chart out a career. This prevents them in getting displaced from their homes in search of the jobs in the cities and we benefit from their unparallel knowledge of the region and local wildlife.
Eco- Tourism Activities
We view each visitor as more than just a customer; they are an opportunity for us to cultivate a deep appreciation for wildlife and the environment. By choosing to stay with us, guests contribute not only to the success of our lodge and the conservation efforts in the national park but also enable us to create meaningful opportunities for them to connect with nature. We see our clients as potential brand ambassadors for wildlife and nature, and we strive to inspire and educate them through various channels.
From informative reading materials in our rooms to engaging interactions with our knowledgeable naturalists, we aim to transform leisure tourists into passionate wildlife enthusiasts. Our dedicated in-house guides and naturalists captivate guests, including the young ones, through the art of storytelling and sharing intriguing facts.
In our continuous pursuit of providing a holistic wildlife experience, we enhance the immersion by offering low impact activities such as nature walks, cycling and village visits. These experiences ignite curiosity and foster a deep connection with nature. With a commitment to unparalleled service and warm hospitality, we strive to create an unforgettable journey that leaves a lasting impression on our guests.
